Gay Waiter Stabbed in Apparent Hate Crime

The stabbing of a gay waiter inside a Santa Monica, California Denny’s restaurant was a hate crime, according to police. According to news reports, employees of the Denny’s were sitting at a table before the restaurant opened when a man knocked on the restaurant’s window and asked to use the bathroom. When the man was allowed inside, he approached the table, and then asked a waiter if he was gay, police say. When the waiter replied that he was gay, the man allegedly stabbed the waiter in the neck with a knife. A suspect, reportedly identified as 24 year old Curtis Martin, is said to have been taken into custody for investigation of attempted murder and committing a hate crime. More information here.

A star college softball pitcher was reportedly stabbed to death, and a suspect in the case was struck and seriously injured moments after allegedly confessing to the crime. 28 year old Stephen Headley was reportedly charged with the murder of 22 year old Nicole Ayres, whose body was found on a soccer field in Southhampton Township, NJ early on Monday, with multiple stab wounds to the head, neck and back, authorities say. Pizza Delivery Driver Murdered for a Small Amount of Money

Richel Nova, of Hyde Park, MA, was a “hard working man, making an honest living” as Domino’s pizza delivery man, according to Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis. While making a delivery, three assailants reportedly stabbed Nova to death, in order to take the small amount of money that he was carrying, before fleeing in his vehicle. A tip from a member of the community and surveillance footage led to the arrest of the three suspects, who police say are high school students. According to news reports, those arrested were Alexander Emmanuel Gallett, 18, Michel Andre St. Jean, 20, and Yamiley Mathurin, 17. More information here.

Roseville police have charged a 21-year-old Detroit man with stabbing his girlfriend and then turning the knife on her stepfather when he tried to protect her during an argument late Wednesday at a residence in the 26000 block of Pinehurst. When police arrived at the Pinehurst residence they found the 20-year-old victim suffering from two stab wounds to her left leg and her father being stabbed multiple times in his stomach and back, police said. Deputy Police Chief James P. Berlin said the stepfather attempted to keep the man from stabbing his daughter, and was himself stabbed as a result. Both victims were reportedly taken to an area hospital. The woman was treated and then released while her stepfather reportedly remains listed in critical condition after several hours of surgery. The California theater was packed for a 9 p.m. Saturday screening of the Martin Scorsese film when the moviegoer complained about a woman near him using a cellphone. The woman and two men with her left the theater. But sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said two men returned a few minutes later and stabbed the victim. “It was a vicious and cowardly attack,” Whitmore said. A woman was stabbed to death in front of her son by a former boyfriend who died of self-inflicted stab wounds after a police chase, Lebanon, Ohio police said this morning. Shena Lee Nolan, 32, was stabbed several times by her ex-boyfriend after an argument in front of her 8-year-old son at her apartment about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lebanon Assistant Police Chief Bob Hawley. A convicted sex offender was found guilty Tuesday of strangling and stabbing his neighbor and her two teenage children in their trailer home in southern Wisconsin. Jurors deliberated for only about 90 minutes before convicting James Koepp of Janesville of three counts of first-degree intentional homicide in the deaths of 38-year-old Danyetta Lentz, her 17-year-old daughter, Nicole, and her 14-year-old son, Scott. Koepp faces mandatory life in prison when he is sentenced April 27. District Attorney David O’Leary said the victims’ DNA on Koepp’s clothes and his DNA under Lentz and Nicole’s fingernails was crucial in convincing jurors. The court complaint charging Hubert indicates that an autopsy showed Chrast had been beaten and that she had multiple broken ribs, a ruptured spleen and liver injuries. A hammer and a screwdriver, both with blood on them, were found inside the apartment and blood was smeared on the apartment walls.
