An 82-year-old Seneca man who was found dead in his home last week was the victim of a homicide, the Oconee County coroner said today. An autopsy revealed that James Carver of 655 James Carver Drive died from blunt force head trauma and that he was slain, said the coroner, Karl E. Addis. Carver’s body was found in his bathroom Thursday around 6:15 p.m. He had been living alone. More information here.

Police believe they know why a 78-year-old Florida man was murdered: He was likely the victim of mistaken identity. Deputies reportedly arrested 21-year-old Robert Pascale for allegedly using a baseball bat to beat Hugh Edwards to death inside his home earlier this week, and believe Pascale may have mistaken Edwards for a sexual predator who lives in the area.Another man charged as an accessory to murder has reportedly been talking to police. Woman Jumps from Cliff to Escape from Rapist

Authorities say a man tried to sexually assault a Southern California jogger who escaped by jumping off a cliff. The woman was reportedly taken to a hospital Friday with cuts and bruises from the fall in Malibu. She told deputies she had finished a run at about noon at Point Dume State Beach and was standing at the edge of a cliff when she was grabbed from behind. She says she and the man struggled for several minutes before she was able to break away. That’s when the woman ran and jumped off the cliff. Deputies say the suspect then escaped in the woman’s Toyota Land Cruiser. More information here.

Moviegoer stabbed for complaining about another’s cell phone use

The California theater was packed for a 9 p.m. Saturday screening of the Martin Scorsese film when the moviegoer complained about a woman near him using a cellphone. The woman and two men with her left the theater. But sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said two men returned a few minutes later and stabbed the victim. “It was a vicious and cowardly attack,” Whitmore said. The victim, who was not identified, was hospitalized with serious wounds. Two other moviegoers who came to the victim’s aid were also hurt during the attack, officials said. More information here.

Joliet, Illinois police say a 47-year-old man died of stab wounds today after coming to the aid of the victim in an alleged domestic battery incident. Police Chief Fred Hayes said officers found Reuben T. Abbott, 0-100 block of York Avenue, lying in a pool of blood on the front porch of a home on the 100 block of Nicholson Street at 4:04 a.m. Abbott, who was unresponsive, “had been stabbed in the back, stomach and neck,” Hayes said. NH Landlord Beaten to Death

Prosecutors allege a New Hampshire man obsessed with getting a Harley-Davidson motorcycle beat his landlord to death, assumed his identify, and then stole his pickup truck in order to trade it for a motorcycle. It is alleged that Paul McDonald traded his landlord’s new truck for the motorcycle and an older truck before fleeing to Vermont, where he was reportedly arrested. Wilcox was found dead in June 2008 in the basement of the Danville home where McDonald lived as his tenant, according to police. More information here.

One arrest has been made in connection with a woman who was drugged and gang-raped on Saturday morning in Soweto, Johannesburg police said. “The woman was at her home when a group of men took her and drugged her. They took her to a house in Dobsonville where they took turns raping her,” said police spokesman, Inspector Kay Makhubele. He said the woman had sustained head injuries and had bruises on her body. Bicyclist Stabbed in Concord

A bicyclist was stabbed by one of five men who attacked him in a residential neighborhood late Monday night, police said. Officers were called about 9:55 p.m. to the intersection of Tilson and Nicholas drives and found the 18-year-old man with stab wounds to his abdomen, said Cpl. James Carroll. On April 25, 2008, Armando Jacobo dropped off his girlfriend after a date that had ended with a fight. He later returned and began to beat and kick both his girlfriend and her father. With a tree branch, he ripped his girlfriend’s lip off her face and left her eyes swollen shut from the beating. Jacobo also beat and kicked the woman’s father when he tried to save his daughter, breaking the man’s ankle, knocking out some of his teeth, and causing him severe brain injuries. The judge called this “one of the most vicious attacks on two human beings I’ve ever seen.” Armando Jacobo, a 23 year old man from Joliet, plead guilty to attempted murder and aggravated battery on a senior citizen, and was sentenced to 25 years on those charges. 85 Year Old Rape Victim Says Ordeal was Worse than the Holocaust

An 85 year old woman in Rossmoor, California stated that the home invasion and brutal rape she suffered two years ago was a worse experience than the holocaust. Thee woman (who name is not given for privacy reasons) was 13 years old when the holocaust came to her native country of Czechoslovakia. Her parents and five siblings were killed in the Auschwitz concentration camp, and she herself was beaten. A man who her parents had trusted to keep her safe was sexually abusive, and stole the little money that her mother had sewn into her jacket, before he abandoned her in the winter (without a jacket).

However, she told Superior Court Judge Daniel B. McNerney that an experience two years ago was even worse: She was confronted in her kitchen by a brutal home intruder. Her house was ransacked. Her life was threatened. The man beat her mercilessly. He kicked her when she was down. And he repeatedly sexually assaulted her in several rooms of her house. More information here.

A man who tortured and strangled his girlfriend three years ago was reportedly sentenced Friday to life in prison without possibility of parol. Prosecutors reportedly said that Jack Henry Lewis, Jr used his hands, feet and a flashlight to beat Jan Hasegawa, 48, then strangled her because she refused to perform a sex act. Her nude body, covered with more than 150 bruises, was found in their Serra Mesa apartment on Sept. 8, 2005. “This was not only a senseless killing, it was a brutal and horrible act,” Superior Court Judge John Einhorn is reported to have said in court. In the first home invasion, 3 robbers armed with hammers entered 1300 W. Fourth St., Apt. 1, in Waterloo, IA and demanded wallets from residents Javier Garcia and Jonathan Sindo. The two victims handed over the wallets and then attempted to stop the intruders, police said. The three criminals then the two victims with hammers and then fled.

In the second home invasion, 2 men reportedly kicked in the back door to 502 Almond St in Waterloo, IA at about 1:55 a.m. Their faces were covered, one of them hand a handgun, and they demanded money from residents Maursid Gaston and Nikesha Roberts. The robbers with cash, and no injuries were reported, police said.

A 42-year-old man was in his home when he heard pounding on his front door. As he went to the door, it was kicked open by criminals. An Oakland, California man faces life in prison without parole after being convicted of a brutal rape and murder more than a decade ago. Authorities connected Willie Latimore, 58, to the case after he was forced to give a DNA sample subsequent to a robbery conviction. The DNA proved to be a match DNA taken from the body of 35-year-old Gwendolyn Evans, who was found beaten, raped, and stabbed in an abandoned apartment on November 11th, 1994. More information here.

TN Family Held Hostage For 5 Hours By Home Invaders

Shelby County, TN police are investigating a home invasion robbery in which a Cordova, TN family was held hostage for five hours. Detectives say that on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, in the 8000 block of Port Douglas Drive, armed and masked men barged into the home just after 10:00 p.m. and didn’t leave until 3:00 a.m. on Thursday. The home invaders reportedly tied up 31 year-old Raven Parson and her three children: two girls, 14, and 10 and a three year-old boy. Investigators say the woman’s boyfriend, Tavious Swift, 28, came home around 1:00 a.m., and the men injured and tied him up as well. According to East Coventry Township, PA police, several people dressed in black and reportedly armed broke into the home and threatened, terrorized and assaulted several occupants of the home. Police said one man, two women and two small children were in the residence when the home invasion occurred. Dennis Lee Richardson Jr. of Willmar and formerly of Rochester was convicted of first-degree aggravated robbery and third-degree burglary, charges that stemmed from separate incidents in 2007. Man and His Current Girlfriend Held For Beating and Rape of His Ex-Girlfriend

Authorities in Lawndale, IL alleged that the 24-year-old victim, who is the mother of Cannady’s child, was attacked by a man named Cannady and his current girlfriend. Cannady quarreled with the victim and accused her of cheating on him, Assistant State’s Atty. Susanne Groebner told the judge. When the victim denied having cheated, Cannady choked and beat her while demanding that she confess, Groebner said. For the next six to eight hours, Cannady allegedly beat the woman with his fists, a broomstick, a belt, a shoe and a cast he removed from his arm while Larson watched and did nothing to stop the assault, Groebner said. “The victim continuously screamed and begged for him to stop and for defendant Larson to call the police, which Larson ignored and just told the victim to own up to what she did,” Groebner said. At one point, Cannady restrained the woman and had sex with Larson in front of her, and afterward raped her repeatedly as Larson watched, authorities allege.
