Elderly man beaten to death in his own home

An 82-year-old Seneca man who was found dead in his home last week was the victim of a homicide, the Oconee County coroner said today. An autopsy revealed that James Carver of 655 James Carver Drive died from blunt force head trauma and that he was slain, said the coroner, Karl E. Addis. Carver’s body was found in his bathroom Thursday around 6:15 p.m. He had been living alone. More information here.

Murdered Florida Man May Have Been Victim of Mistaken Identity

Police believe they know why a 78-year-old Florida man was murdered: He was likely the victim of mistaken identity. Deputies reportedly arrested 21-year-old Robert Pascale for allegedly using a baseball bat to beat Hugh Edwards to death inside his home earlier this week, and believe Pascale may have mistaken Edwards for a sexual predator who lives in the area.Another man charged as an accessory to murder has reportedly been talking to police. Woman, Father Stabbed

Roseville police have charged a 21-year-old Detroit man with stabbing his girlfriend and then turning the knife on her stepfather when he tried to protect her during an argument late Wednesday at a residence in the 26000 block of Pinehurst. When police arrived at the Pinehurst residence they found the 20-year-old victim suffering from two stab wounds to her left leg and her father being stabbed multiple times in his stomach and back, police said. Deputy Police Chief James P. Berlin said the stepfather attempted to keep the man from stabbing his daughter, and was himself stabbed as a result. Both victims were reportedly taken to an area hospital. The woman was treated and then released while her stepfather reportedly remains listed in critical condition after several hours of surgery.  More information here.

Charges in Lincoln Park Rape and Robbery

An 19-year-old Chicago man has been charged in a weekend Lincoln Park rape and robbery, according to police. Marvin Hudson allegedly came up to a 21-year-old woman in the 1700 block of North Halsted Street about 2 a.m. Saturday and pulled her into an alley, Chicago police said in a news release. There he demanded the contents of the woman’s purse and then raped her, they said. Court records indicate Hudson has been arrested several times in the last three years on misdemeanor charges, and pleaded guilty in a misdemeanor trespassing case in Chicago in January. Nova Southeastern Professor Murdered by Violent Home Invader

A Nova Southeastern University science professor is dead following an overnight home invasion. Police say that an armed man entered the home around 12:34 a.m. at Northwest Sixth Court and 75th Terrace in Plantation, tied up a married couple and robbed them. Police spokesman Detective Robert Rettig said the robber then fatally shot the 46-year-old man. Investigators say the intruder then set multiple fires inside the house before fleeing the scene. The woman escaped the burning house with her 5-year-old child. She ran to a neighbor’s house and he called the police. When firefighters arrived on scene they discovered the victim inside the home. Philadelphia, PA man found fatally stabbed

A man was stabbed to death in West Philadelphia last night, police said. The victim, whose age and name were not available, was stabbed in the back with an unknown object around 10:30 p.m. in the area of 56th and Walnut Streets, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests were reported.  More information here.

Woman kidnapped and raped in Kansas City

A 28-year-old woman told police she was raped today by a man who attacked her as she was getting cigarettes from her car in her driveway. The incident began about 3:10 a.m. near 18th Street and Elmwood Avenue. The woman said the man forced her into the car at gunpoint. They drove several blocks away and parked, where the man raped and sodomized her. After the woman bit the suspect’s cheek, the man fled. The victim drove to a patrol division station and reported the crime. More information here.

Australian man stabbed in his own bed

The 43-year-old was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital after allegedly being stabbed twice in the chest and slashed on his arms. Police have arrested a 31-year-old man. Police said the incident took place in Bilson St about 8.30pm. It is believed two men went to the house following a dispute with the alleged victim earlier in the day. “When the pair arrived at the house they called out to the resident and then went inside,” Sen-Constable Wayne Wilson said. They spoke briefly with the man before they allegedly produced a knife. After the attack the two men fled. More information here.

Georgia man murdered by home invader

Shortly before 2 a.m., a man entered the front door of a split-level home in the 600 block of Adams Landing Court in unincorporated Lawrenceville, Georgia and went to a lower bedroom, police said. “Gunshots were heard, and the victim was struck at least once with a large-caliber weapon,” Gwinnett County police spokesman Officer Brian Kelly said. The man died from his wounds, and was found on the floor of his bedroom, Kelly said. He was identified as Yassin Mahmoud, 36, of Lawrenceville. The shooter, who had his face obscured, fled in a dark-colored sedan, witnesses told police.  More information here.

Woman Found Murdered in Cell Phone Store

A woman was reportedly found murdered inside Cellular Superstore on South Madison Street around 6:30 this afternoon. The victim’s name was reported to be Sandra Robinson, a store employee. Investigators reportedly believe the motive was robbery, but don’t have any suspects at this time. Police reportedly say Robinson’s boyfriend went to the store and noticed the doors to the business were locked, but saw blood through the window. When officers arrived, they found the woman’s body, according to news reports. More information here.

Car Accident Victim Stabbed in Oakland, CA

Just before 9PM, police responded to an incident at Scotia Avenue and Golf Links Road in Oakland, CA. Two vehicles had gotten into an accident, and afterward, a passenger in one car stabbed an individual in the other car, according to police. The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, and the suspect was reportedly arrested. More information here.

Springfield, MA Clerk Shot by Impatient Robber

A clerk at Wheeler’s Convenience Store, 142 Dickinson St., was shot in the abdomen by a masked gunman during a robbery Sunday morning, police said. The 38-year-old male clerk was rushed into surgery at Baystate Medical Center following the 11:30 a.m. shooting, and is expected to survive, said Sgt. John M. Delaney. Police say a man in a hooded sweatshirt and wearing a mask entered the store, pointed a small-caliber handgun at the clerk and demanded money from the register, Delaney said. He shot the clerk apparently because he felt the man was not emptying the register quickly enough, Delaney said. After the shooting, the robber jumped over the counter, grabbed money out of the register, and fled, he said. More information here.

Woman Jumps from Cliff to Escape from Rapist

Authorities say a man tried to sexually assault a Southern California jogger who escaped by jumping off a cliff. The woman was reportedly taken to a hospital Friday with cuts and bruises from the fall in Malibu. She told deputies she had finished a run at about noon at Point Dume State Beach and was standing at the edge of a cliff when she was grabbed from behind. She says she and the man struggled for several minutes before she was able to break away. That’s when the woman ran and jumped off the cliff. Deputies say the suspect then escaped in the woman’s Toyota Land Cruiser. More information here.

Moviegoer stabbed for complaining about another’s cell phone use

The California theater was packed for a 9 p.m. Saturday screening of the Martin Scorsese film when the moviegoer complained about a woman near him using a cellphone. The woman and two men with her left the theater. But sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said two men returned a few minutes later and stabbed the victim. “It was a vicious and cowardly attack,” Whitmore said. The victim, who was not identified, was hospitalized with serious wounds. Two other moviegoers who came to the victim’s aid were also hurt during the attack, officials said. More information here.

Toledo Police Issue Warrant for Serial Rape and Robbery Suspect

Toledo police have issued a warrant for the suspect accused of targeting women in five robberies, including one that escalated to rape. In at least two of the crimes committed in the last 10 days, the suspect hid in the backseat of the female victim’s unlocked car and ordered her at gunpoint to drive to an ATM and turn over cash, police said. Ohio woman fatally stabbed in front of her child

A woman was stabbed to death in front of her son by a former boyfriend who died of self-inflicted stab wounds after a police chase, Lebanon, Ohio police said this morning. Shena Lee Nolan, 32, was stabbed several times by her ex-boyfriend after an argument in front of her 8-year-old son at her apartment about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lebanon Assistant Police Chief Bob Hawley. The boy was not injured. “What kind of a person stabs a mother anyway, but then to do it front of a child?” Hawley reportedly said Thursday morning. Nolan was taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, where she was pronounced dead. More information here.

Mexican journalist’s burned body found

Mexican authorities reported Monday they have found the dismembered, burned body of a Mexican journalist kidnapped in 2007. Officials believe the journalist, Rodolfo Rincon Taracena, was killed by members of the Los Zetas cartel killed Taracena for his reporting on drug activity in the Gulf Coast city of Villahermosa. Woman Raped by Man Seeking Revenge Against her boyfriend

A Yonkers man, who reportedly raped and robbed a woman over a three hour period in an act of revenge against her boyfriend, has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison and 25 years parole. Kevin Denham, 28, had been convicted by a Westchester County Court jury of two counts of rape in the first degree, two counts of burglary in the first degree, two counts of criminal sexual act in the first degree, one count of robbery in the first degree, one count of assault in the second degree, and one count of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, according to news reports. The attack reportedly took place on March 1, 2009 when Denham broke into the woman’s Yonkers apartment through a rear window and attacker her as she slept in her bed. More information here.

2 Women Kidnapped and Raped

A Woodhull, Illinois man is reportedly facing six felony counts for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting two women March 1 on Big Island in Rock Island County. Jason W. Kugler, 29, was reportedly charged in Rock Island County Circuit Court with six Class X counts, which each carry up to 30 years in prison upon conviction. He faces two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated kidnapping. According to the charges, Kugler was armed with a weapon when he committed the crimes. The robbery counts allege that he stole each victim’s purse. The two women are 25 and 23 years old. Joliet, IL man fatally stabbed while helping assault victim

Joliet, Illinois police say a 47-year-old man died of stab wounds today after coming to the aid of the victim in an alleged domestic battery incident. Police Chief Fred Hayes said officers found Reuben T. Abbott, 0-100 block of York Avenue, lying in a pool of blood on the front porch of a home on the 100 block of Nicholson Street at 4:04 a.m. Abbott, who was unresponsive, “had been stabbed in the back, stomach and neck,” Hayes said.
